Meet the Craftsman

Raleigh has been crafting knives since the age of 14. In 2016 he founded Avery Knifeworks as a means to sell his blades. Today, those blades are made available exclusively through Avery Knifeworks showroom and our authorized dealers. Specializing in custom hunting and kitchen knives, Avery Knifeworks is a go-to for anyone who needs a durable tool and desires functional art.

See some of his early work by clicking this video from early 2020.

Since 2015

In October of 2015, Raleigh Avery, having been exposed to blacksmithing earlier that year at summer camp, made his first knife as a birthday gift for his grandfather. Inspired by that event, he launched into the artform of blacksmithing with vigor. It was a slow start, being fifteen it was hard to even amass the tools to explore the craft. However, after years of work, a short stint in college and two years on History Channel's "Mountain Men", Avery Knifeworks has become a full time job since 2020.

During the height of the Covid Pandemic, Raleigh decided to open a showroom in Banner Elk, NC. A location close to his forge and more importantly a location close to heart, stuck between family land and within the mountains that inspired so much growth and opportunity for him. Malea Massey joined the team as Manager of the showroom at opening in 2020, following a stint of work in the forge.

Since Avery Knifeworks first blade was crafted in the fall of 2015, thousands of users and collectors have added one of Raleigh Avery's knives to their arsenal.

Some of our favorite steels are CPM 3V, Nitro-V, 80CrV2 and 1095. Our handles are largely crafted from hardwoods with resin incorporated for stabilization or 'resin-river' designs. Some of our favorites include pinecones cast in resin, dyed maple burl, and resin/burl split scales. View some examples by clicking the button below
